Understanding Acne Treatment at Ambrosia Aesthetics

Acne or pimples is a common skin condition scientifically known as acne vulgaris. It can affect individuals of all ages and often leads to not only physical discomfort but also emotional distress.

At Ambrosia Aesthetics, our chief dermatologist, Dr. Niketa Sonavane, strives to provide safe and effective acne treatment options.

We emphasize on personalized treatment plans in order to give you the best treatment outcome.

At Ambrosia Aesthetics, we follow a four pillar plan to effectively manage acne.

Pillar 1: Evaluation and management of the underlying cause.

Our acne specialist doctor employs a systematic approach to diagnose various types of acne, ensuring precise and effective treatment strategies:

Clinical Assessment:

Dermatologists begin by conducting a thorough visual examination of the patient's skin to identify the presence of acne lesions, including blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules, nodules, or cysts.

Classification:

They classify the type and severity of acne based on recognized grading systems, such as the Global Acne Grading System. This classification helps determine the most appropriate treatment approach.

Patient History:

Dermatologists gather a detailed patient history, including any prior acne treatments, skincare routines, and medication usage. They also inquire about lifestyle factors and any family history of acne.

Physical Examination:

Dermatologists closely examine the distribution of acne lesions, noting their location and pattern, which can provide clues about potential triggers or contributing factors.

Differential Diagnosis:

In some cases, dermatologists may need to differentiate acne from other skin conditions that mimic acne, such as folliculitis, rosacea, or perioral dermatitis.

Testing:

Depending on the specific case, dermatologists may order additional tests, such as hormone panels, to identify contributing factors and guide treatment decisions.

Personalized Treatment Plan:

Once the diagnosis is established, dermatologists develop a tailored treatment plan, considering the type and severity of acne, the patient's skin type, and any underlying factors. This personalized approach ensures the most effective and targeted treatment to manage and improve the patient's acne condition.

Pillar 2: Daily skincare routine.

Our chief dermatologist, designs a personalized skincare routine as per the skin type, acne type, current lifestyle-factors and the prevailing weather conditions.

The main purpose of a daily skin routine is daily protection as well as daily repair at its best.

The skin routine for acne prone skin typically comprises of a basic barrier building (skin strengthening) routine which includes a cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen; and an active (problem solving) routine consisting of a day serum and night serum.

The daily routine may also comprise of topical and oral medications and skin health supplements which are recommended depending on the underlying causative factors.

Pillar 3: Safe and effective in-clinic treatments.

At Ambrosia Aesthetics, our chief dermatologist carefully selects clinical treatment options based on the patient's skin type, acne type and acne severity.

This ensures the most effective approach to acne management based on the unique individual needs of each patient.

Chemical Peels:

Chemical peels are a popular in-office treatment. Dermatologists apply a chemical solution to the skin's surface, which causes controlled exfoliation. This process helps remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and reduce acne. Chemical peels can also improve the overall texture and tone of the skin.

Microdermabrasion:

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure that uses a machine to exfoliate the skin's outer layer. It's particularly effective for mild acne and can help improve the overall appearance of the skin. By removing dead skin cells and promoting collagen production, microdermabrasion can lead to a smoother complexion.

Laser Acne Treatment:

At Ambrosia Aesthetics, we offer laser treatment to address acne. These treatments target acne-causing bacteria and inflammation. They can also stimulate collagen production, resulting in smoother skin. Laser and light therapies are often used for individuals with moderate to severe acne or those seeking to minimize scarring.

Comedone Extraction:

Dermatologists use specialized tools to manually extract blackheads and whiteheads. Comedone extraction procedure is typically performed during an in-office visit. By safely removing these comedones, it helps prevent further acne development and can provide immediate relief.

Intralesional Injections:

For large, painful acne cysts, dermatologists may administer intra-lesional injections. This treatment rapidly reduces inflammation and pain, often leading to quick relief and improvement.

Blue Light Therapy:

Blue light therapy involves exposing the skin to specific wavelengths of light to kill acne-causing bacteria on the skin's surface. It's a non-invasive option for managing acne.

Fractional Laser Treatment:

Fractional laser therapy is particularly beneficial for individuals with acne scars. This procedure resurfaces damaged skin, stimulating collagen production and reducing the appearance of scars. It can also improve overall skin texture.

Microneedling:

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure where tiny needles create micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates collagen production and can improve acne scars, as well as overall skin texture and tone.

Pillar 4: Skin health checks for maintainanace.

Our chief dermatologist recommends the following key steps to maintain acne-free skin after successful acne treatment at Ambrosia Aesthetics:

Regular Dermatologist Checkups:

Continue scheduled appointments with your dermatologist for follow-up assessments and adjustments to your skincare regimen as needed. This is recommended once in 2 to 3 months after the acne is treated.

Stick Your Skincare Routine:

Continue using the skincare products recommended by your dermatologist, including any prescription medications or topical treatments, as directed.

Diet and Lifestyle:

Maintain a balanced diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and manage stress levels through relaxation techniques like meditation or yoga.

Hands Off:

Resist the urge to touch or pick at your face, as this can introduce bacteria and worsen acne or lead to scarring.

Be Patient:

Acne-free skin maintenance is an ongoing process. Consistency and patience are key to preventing future breakouts and maintaining clear, healthy skin.
